Pentax has no resources to develop an entirely new mount and release many new lenses at once. The EVF panel could also be combined with the OVF image in "DSLR mode" and display useful information as an overlay, such as a live histogram from the metering sensor. Such a camera will have two entirely independent modes: DSLR and mirroless-like. The solution for the future is to introduce a hybrid TTL viewfinder: instead of the AF point display, a high resolution LCD or OLED screen will allow to switch to EVF when the mirror is up (live view). I found enough situations where an OVF is preferable to an EVF. The attraction for the EVF is in some ways strange, why want so much the same type of image that you have in live view, when you can have two finder modes.Ĭonsider that the OVF is letting your eyes adapt to the ambient light, can work when the camera is off and is sparing battery life anyway, and is free of any artifacts that an electronic display might introduce (noise, lag, color synchronization problems). Many will cry over nice TTL OVFs when the entire market will be saturated by EVFs. In a mirrorless world Pentax will have a mirror.
